Summary

Post a general ledger transaction from the teller screen in CAMS Admin, such as moving funds to or from your till.

General ledger entries let a teller record money that is not tied to a member account, so the books stay balanced.

About 5 minutes · 6 steps.

Prerequisites

  • A CAMS Admin login with teller rights and an open till.
  • The ledger account you need to post to, plus the amount.
  • The payer or depositor's name and a short description for the record.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in to CAMS Admin. If you are not sure how, see How to sign in and navigate CAMS Admin.
  2. In the left menu, open Transactions > Teller, then click New Transaction.
  3. On the Choose Category step, pick General Ledger. The other categories are Client Transaction, Till Administration, and Bulk Transaction, so make sure you are on the right one.

  1. Choose the transaction type. Receipt brings money into a cash, bank, or till account. Payment takes money out of one. Contra moves money between two cash or bank accounts. Journal adjusts between two non-cash ledgers.
  2. Select the ledger account, then enter the Amount and the Description. Type the depositor's or payer's name in the description so the record shows who the money is from. If you are allotting funds to your till, choose the till account on the correct side.
  3. Check the figures, then click submit. CAMS posts the matching debit and credit, updates the balances, and keeps an audit trail.

Common pitfalls & FAQ

  • What is fund allotment? It is moving cash to or from your till, for example loading float at the start of the day. Post it as a general ledger entry with the till account on the correct side.
  • Where do I type the depositor's name? There is no separate name box for a general ledger entry. Put the name in the Description field so it stays with the record.
  • My entry will not submit. Check the account rules for the type you picked. A Receipt needs a cash, bank, or till account on the debit side. A Journal cannot use any cash or till account.
  • Should I use General Ledger or Client Transaction? Use General Ledger for money not tied to a member. Use Client Transaction for a member's deposit, withdrawal, or loan payment.
  • Can I reverse a posted entry? Not from this screen. Check the amount and accounts before you submit, since the entry updates the books right away.
