USSD User PIN Creation and Reset with OTP Verification

This feature update introduces enhanced security and accessibility for USSD services by allowing users to create or reset their PINs. Here’s a summary of the key aspects:

  • PIN Creation and Reset: Users can create or reset their PIN either by visiting their office or calling the admin to request the setup.
  • OTP Verification: To ensure security, users will undergo OTP (One-Time Password) verification during the process of creating or resetting their PIN. The OTP is sent by the admin as highlighted in the diagram below.
  • PIN Validation: A validation mechanism ensures that the PIN is set correctly and meets any required security criteria.
  • New USSD Menu Option: A new option in the USSD menu will allow users to create or reset their PIN directly through the USSD interface.

These updates significantly enhance the overall security of USSD access while providing a more accessible and streamlined process for users.

To create or reset the PIN, the user follows the below steps:

  1. For Kenya, dial *789*103#
  2. For Uganda, dial *185*7*3*3#
  3. For Tanzania, dial *149 *46*19# 

2. Select create/ reset PIN

3. Admin will send an OTP from the admin portal; type the OTP received through SMS

4. Create a new PIN

5. Confirm the PIN

6. Select 1 to confirm then you will receive a confirmation pop up on your screen

You would have successfuly created your PIN.
