How QuickLoan works, end to end

Summary

QuickLoan is Wakandi's automated small-loan channel — members apply and get disbursed by phone in seconds, with no paperwork and no loan officer in the loop. This article explains the process end to end, and what it costs.

About 3 minutes to read.

Why it matters

Every month a member with an urgent need skips the SACCO's queue for a mobile lender charging more and delivering faster — because that lender answers in seconds, not days. QuickLoan closes that gap: the same speed and convenience, but the interest stays with the SACCO instead of leaving to a fintech app.

The loop, start to finish

QuickLoan runs as one automatic loop through the SACCO's own account:

  1. Set your limits. The SACCO decides the eligibility rules and the lending limit — nothing is opened up without a policy behind it.
  2. Prequalify. Eligible members are identified automatically against those limits. No manual review per member.
  3. SMS invite. One SMS reaches every eligible member, telling them a loan is available.
  4. Apply, 24/7. A member applies from any phone, at any time — no branch visit, no form.
  5. Auto-disburse. Funds land in the member's account instantly on approval.
  6. Repay & revolve. Repayments return through the same channel, and the member becomes eligible to borrow again.

Every shilling moves through a dedicated account at the SACCO — never a pooled balance somewhere else.

What it costs

There's no subscription fee and no setup cost. Wakandi charges 3.5% of the disbursed amount, paid by the member, per loan. If nothing is disbursed, nothing is charged — the fee only ever rides on a loan that actually went out. The SACCO sets its own interest rate on top, and that interest income is entirely the SACCO's — Wakandi never takes a share of it.

How members reach it

QuickLoan is reachable through the channels a member already uses — USSD and the Member App — using the same phone number that registered them with the SACCO. No separate login, no new app to install.

See it on a phone

Try the real USSD flow right here — dial, reply, and watch every screen exactly as a member would.

Every simulator also carries a Share with your members panel and a QR code, so SACCO staff can hand the exact same demo to a member's own phone — no app to install, just a scan or a link.

The application screen itself — what a member actually sees when they accept an offer — is live too: Try the QuickLoan application flow (sandbox mode: no real OTP, no real money moves).

Common pitfalls & FAQ

  • Does this replace normal loan products? No — QuickLoan is a separate, automated channel for small, fast loans. Standard loan products with committee review continue to run alongside it.
  • Can a SACCO control who's eligible? Yes. Eligibility and the lending limit are policy the SACCO sets; prequalification only runs against members who meet it.
  • What if a member can't repay? Standard SACCO collections and delinquency handling apply — QuickLoan changes how a loan is disbursed, not how repayment is enforced.
  • Is there a live demo? Yes — the QuickStart page for QuickLoan includes a playable, real member-experience demo (sandbox mode: no real OTP, no real money moves) that a SACCO's leadership can try before committing.
