Set your country and language in CAMS Admin
Summary
Change the language CAMS uses for you, and see which country the institution you are working in belongs to. About 2 minutes · 5 steps. Also called: change language, translate, switch country.
Prerequisites
- Nothing beyond your CAMS sign-in.
Step-by-step
- Sign in to CAMS. The left menu runs down the side and lists the CAMS modules, including Dashboard, Client, Accounts, Transactions, Accounting, Requests, Messages, Campaigns, Reports, Import, Business Account and Settings.
- Look at the top of the screen. The header shows the country your institution operates in, so you can tell which market you are working in before you change anything.
- Click the language selector in the header. You'll see the languages available to you.
- Choose your language. The screen text changes straight away, and your choice is remembered the next time you sign in.
- In the left menu, click Dashboard to check the change. Menu names, tab names and card labels now read in the language you picked.
Note: This changes the words CAMS uses for menus, buttons and labels. It does not translate your own data. Member names, product names and anything your institution typed in stay exactly as they were entered. Amounts stay in your organisation's display currency too, for example UGX.
Common pitfalls & FAQ
- Why does the country matter? If you support institutions in more than one country, the header tells you where you are before you act. Reports, holidays and some payment options differ by country, so this prevents changes made in the wrong place.
- My language is not in the list. Only languages that have been prepared for CAMS appear. If one you need is missing, tell the product team which language and which country, and it can be added.
- A label looks like code instead of words. On the Dashboard, a chart title can show as a translation key, for example FundsInVsFundsOut, when the language pack has no wording for it yet. The figures underneath are still the live numbers. Anything else not yet translated falls back to English, so you are never left with a blank label.
- I looked in Settings and found nothing. The language selector is in the header, not under Settings. Settings → General has three tabs, Info, Security and Appearance, and Appearance sets the theme for everyone in your organisation, not your language.
- The country looks wrong. The header reads the country from the institution's own record. If it is wrong, that is the record to correct, not this setting. Ask an administrator. The Country you see on a member's Residence tab is a different field, part of that member's address.
- Does this change anything for members? No. This is your own view of the admin. Member notifications carry their own language, chosen in the Select Language field under Messages → Create Template. What members see in the member app and over USSD is set separately.
