Figure 1: Your SACCO's USSD menu on the phone, showing 1 Saving, 2 Shares, 3 Loan and option 4 Create / Reset PIN Type the PIN you want (usually 4 digits) and send.
Type the same PIN again to confirm. You get a message that your PIN is set.
Tip: Decide on your PIN before you dial, so the session does not close while you think.
Note: Forgot your old PIN? The same option replaces it — there is nothing else to unlock. Wording differs a little between SACCOs, but the steps are the same.
Common pitfalls & FAQ
- It won't accept my PIN. Use the number of digits it asks for (usually 4), and make sure both entries match.
- It says my number isn't recognised. The number on your member record may be out of date, or your membership not active yet. Ask your SACCO to check both.
- I still can't set a PIN. Ask your SACCO — staff can send a one-time PIN code to your registered phone from your member record.
- Should I ever share my PIN? Never. No SACCO staff member will ask for it. Treat it like your bank card PIN.
