How to apply for a loan

Summary

Apply for a SACCO loan in the member app: pick the loan product, fill in the form, and send it for review. About 4 minutes · 8 steps. Also called: loan application, borrow, apply for credit.

Prerequisites

  • You can sign in — see How to sign in to the member app.
  • An active membership in the SACCO.
  • How much you want to borrow and over how many months.
  • Your details on hand: income, residence, and a next of kin (name, relationship, date of birth).

Step-by-step

  1. Open the member app and sign in. You'll see Your Groups.
  2. Tap your group. Your dashboard opens.
  3. Under Loan, tap Apply Now. The application screen opens.
  4. Under Choose loan product, pick the loan you want. The rest of the form appears, with that product's amount and tenure limits.

  5. Fill in the fields marked with an asterisk (*). Keep Loan Amount and Tenure Period (in months) within the limits shown. Pick from the Economic Sector and Economic Sub Sector lists. Under Destination Type, choose where the money is paid, for example mobile money.
  6. Add the optional details: why you need the loan, your residence, your income, and a Next Of Kin (tap the + to add one). They help the SACCO decide.
  7. Tick While applying to loan, I know the Terms and Conditions.
  8. Tap Apply loan. Your application goes to the SACCO for review — follow it under My Loans, on the Pending tab.

Note: Apply loan stays greyed out until every asterisked (*) field is filled and the Terms and Conditions box is ticked.

Common pitfalls & FAQ

  • It won't accept my amount. Stay between the minimum and maximum in the Loan Amount label. Each loan product has its own limits.
  • There are no products to choose. Your SACCO hasn't opened a loan product to you. Whether you qualify depends on your membership, earlier loans and your shares.
  • What happens after I apply? The SACCO reviews the application, your documents and next of kin, then the fees, then approves it. The money goes to the destination you chose. How long that takes depends on your SACCO.
  • I made a mistake in the form. Tell the SACCO — staff can correct an application that is still under review.
