How to configure savings and share products
Summary
Set up the savings and share products your members can open, each with its own name, type and general ledger code.
About 4 minutes · 7 steps. Also called: savings products, share products, share types, deposit products, product configuration.
Prerequisites
- A CAMS sign-in with a role that can open Settings.
- Your chart of accounts, so you can pick the right general ledger code.
- Any interest rate or fee the product uses, created first — see How to add fees and penalties and the interest rates lesson.
Step-by-step
- Sign in to CAMS Admin.
- In the left menu, click Settings, then Products. Product Setup opens on the Loan Product tab.
- Click Savings Product. A table lists your savings products with their Name, Type, Account Number, General Ledger Code and Description.

- Search the table first, so you don't create a duplicate. Then click Add new at the top right.
- Fill in the form:
- Name (required), for example Ordinary Savings.
- Type: Savings, Current, Deposits or Fixed Deposits.
- Account Number and General Ledger Code, linking the product to your chart of accounts.
- Interest Rate and a short Description.
- Click Save at the bottom of the form. The new product appears in the table. Cancel leaves without saving.
- For share products, click the Share Product tab. It works the same way: Add new opens a form where you name the share type and set its share value.

Common pitfalls & FAQ
- The screen opened on a list of loans. Product Setup always opens on Loan Product. Click the tab you need; each tab has its own list and form.
- Savings or shares? Savings hold member deposits and earn interest. Shares hold member ownership and pay dividends.
- How do I change or retire a product? Open the three-dot menu at the end of its row and click Edit. Avoid deleting a product members already use — edit it or stop offering it, so old accounts keep their history.
