Make someone a teller and set what they can post
Summary
Give a staff member a till of their own, and decide which transactions they may post without approval first.
About 4 minutes · 7 steps. Also called: add a teller, teller permissions, maker checker, is teller.
The rest of the course follows a teller's day: opening the till, serving members, ledger postings, approvals, then the day's reports and reconciling. Teller work happens on one page, Transactions → Teller, with three tabs: New Transaction, History and Requests.
Prerequisites
- Your CAMS sign-in, with a role that can open Settings → Users.
- The person already has a user account and at least one role.
- The branch they will work in exists under Settings → Branches.
Step-by-step
Sign in to CAMS. See How to sign in and navigate CAMS Admin.
In the left menu, expand Settings and click Users. Open the person for editing.
Check Branch Access covers the branch they will work in.
Open the Teller section and tick Is Teller. The teller settings appear underneath.
Under Maker Checker Request Settings, tick each type this person may post on their own. A ticked type posts straight away; an unticked type still goes through, but waits under Requests for an approver. Client Transactions covers Deposit, Withdraw, Loan Repayment, Disburse Loan, Apply Fee/Penalty, Reverse Fee/Penalty and Error Correction. General Ledger Transactions covers Record Receipt, Other Income, Record Payment, Record Expense, Pay Corporate Tax, Bank/Cash Transfer, Journal Entry and Reverse General Ledger Entry.
Fill in Transaction Mode Permissions, Opening Hours Allowed Posting Time and Backdated Posting Restriction Type; all three are required. Click Save.
Ask the new teller to open Transactions → Teller. The header shows their till account number, whether it is Open, the Branch Status and the Balance.

Note: This gives the person a till. Putting cash in it is the teller's own first task — see Open your till, top it up, and close it.
Common pitfalls & FAQ
- Does ticking a box give the teller permission? It decides whether they need approval, not whether they may do it at all.
- Save stays greyed out. The three required fields at the foot of the panel are still empty.
- There is no Teller item under Settings. You make a teller under Settings → Users and work a till under Transactions → Teller.
- The teller still cannot post. Check Is Teller is ticked, Branch Access includes their branch, and their till is Open.
