Connect an online payment provider to a SACCO

Updated 5 Aug 2026

Summary

Add an online payment provider to a SACCO so member money can be collected and paid out online. About 5 minutes - 8 steps. Also called: mobile money setup, wallet, payment integration, payment provider.

Prerequisites

  • Your sign-in for the CAMS Superadmin Portal. Only superadmins, or users with the right permission, can manage providers.
  • The name of the SACCO.
  • The wallet details and credentials from the payment provider.
  • A decision, agreed with the SACCO, on whether money lands in a pooled account or a dedicated one.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in to the CAMS Superadmin Portal.
  2. Open the Credit Associations section. You will see the list of SACCOs.
  3. Search for the SACCO by name or ID, then click it to open its profile.
  4. Click the Online Payments tab. It lists the providers already linked, with their status, type and whether collection and disbursement are enabled.
  5. Check that online payments are switched on for this SACCO.
  6. Click Add Provider. A window opens.
  7. Select the provider, set the transaction type (for example ALL), choose Pooled or Dedicated, and enter the wallet details.
  8. Save. CAMS validates the wallet credentials, then the provider appears in the list. To change it later, click the edit action on its row, update the fields and save again.
Warning: The integration type decides which account collections land in. Confirm pooled or dedicated with the SACCO before you save.

Common pitfalls & FAQ

  • What is the difference between Pooled and Dedicated? A pooled setup collects money from many members into one shared pool account. A dedicated setup collects into an account of its own. The transaction list shows these types as POOL_COLLECTION and COLLECTION.
  • The form will not save. Provider name and wallet are mandatory, and CAMS validates the wallet credentials before saving. Read the error on the field and correct it.
  • Two-factor authentication will not switch on. It can be enabled only while online payments are active. Turn online payments on first, then enable it.
  • The provider shows Inactive. Open it with the edit action and check its configuration and status.
  • Collections are not arriving. Open Business Accounts, then the Transactions tab. Enter the provider name, set a date range and click Search. Check the Status and Reconciled columns. A date range is required and cannot be longer than 30 days.
  • I cannot see the Online Payments tab. Your account may not have permission for it. Ask a superadmin.
