Charge a different disbursement fee on one loan product
Updated 1 Aug 2026
Summary
Set a disbursement fee that applies to one loan product only, instead of charging the same fee on every loan. About 5 minutes · 8 steps. Also called: processing fee, loan charge, product fee.
Prerequisites
- Your CAMS sign-in, with permission to change products. Settings items appear only when your role allows them, so if you cannot see Settings, or Edit is greyed out, ask an administrator.
- The loan product already created. This changes an existing product, it does not create one.
- The fee you have agreed internally, as a percentage or a fixed amount.
Step-by-step
- Sign in to CAMS.
- In the left sidebar, expand Settings, then click Products. The page opens on the Loan Product tab.
- Click the Fee & Penalties tab. You'll see the fee and penalty definitions your institution already uses.
- Search for the fee before you add a new one, then add or edit the definition to match what you agreed and save. You'll see it in the list.
Warning: Definitions here are used across products and transactions. Editing one that other products use changes those products too. Add a new definition instead.
- Click the Loan Product tab and find the product by name or code.
- Open the product from the row link or View. You'll see Loan Product Details, with its limits, interest and fee behaviour.
- Click Edit, set the disbursement fee for this product, and save. The saved fee now belongs to this product alone.
- Go back to the Loan Product list and open a second product. Its fee is unchanged, which confirms the fee is per product.
Note: The fee applies to loans disbursed after you save it. Loans already disbursed keep the fee they were created with, so a change here never alters an existing member's balance.
Warning: This is a real charge to the borrower. Check the figure against what you agreed before you save, because the next disbursement will use it.
Common pitfalls & FAQ
- I can't find Products in the menu. In Admin V2 it sits under Settings. In the older portal it was a main-menu item.
- Which products need their own fee? Only the ones you price differently. A product with no fee of its own behaves as it did before.
- The fee did not appear on a loan. Check the loan was disbursed after you saved, and that you edited the product the loan was created under. Two products can have similar names.
- The product form only offers accounting settings. Some roles can edit only the accounting-linked settings on a loan product. An administrator has to make the change.
- How do I check the fee is charged? In the left sidebar, expand Reports, click Loan, then click the Fee Status Report card. Set your filters and click Submit.
- Percentage or fixed amount? Either. Pick whichever matches your agreement with the borrower.
- Does Wakandi take a share of my interest? No. Interest on the loan stays with your institution. This screen sets a disbursement fee that the borrower carries, and it is yours to set.
