Turn on maker-checker approvals for a credit association

Updated 5 Aug 2026

Summary

Switch on dual control for one credit association, so sensitive actions need a second person to approve them.

About 5 minutes - 7 steps. Also called: dual control, four eyes, maker checker, approval workflow.

Prerequisites

  • A superadmin sign-in for the CAMS Superadmin Portal. Only superadmins can view or change these settings.
  • The name or ID of the credit association.
  • A written decision from the SACCO on which operations need a second approver.
  • At least one other CAMS user who can approve requests, otherwise requests will sit and wait.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in to the CAMS Superadmin Portal.
  2. Open Credit Associations and search for the SACCO by name or ID.
  3. Open that SACCO's profile and click the Configurations tab.
  4. Go to Maker Checker Permissions. Tick the box beside each operation that needs a second approver:
  • Request Loan Interest WaiveOff
  • Back Dated Transaction Approval Request
  • Request Member Bank
  • Request Member MNO
  • Request Teller Disbursed
  • Request Teller Repayment
  • Request Member Detail
  • Request Teller Deposit
  • Request Teller Ledger Entry
  • Request Teller Withdraw
  1. Look at Communication Permissions in the same tab: Invite Email, Transaction Email, Invite SMS and Transaction SMS. Keep at least one channel enabled, so members still receive critical notifications.
  2. Click Save.
  3. Check it works. In the Admin Portal, click Requests, then open the Active Requests tab. A ticked operation now raises a request there instead of completing on its own.

Common pitfalls & FAQ

  • When does this start applying? Changes take effect immediately after saving. There is no separate release step, so tell the SACCO before you save.
  • Where do the requests go? In the Admin Portal, click Requests. Active Requests holds open items, Assigned Requests is a person's own queue, and All Requests is the full register.
  • How does a checker approve? Open the row action menu, choose View Details, and read every row on Changes review. Click Approve, then enter the Approval Comment. In the dialog, Approve stays disabled until a comment is entered.
  • Someone cannot see the Approve button. Approve appears only for a user with approval permission on that request, commonly the current assignee on a pending item. They may need reassignment or a different role.
  • Should I tick every box? No. Enabling too many operations may slow down day-to-day work. Tick the ones your risk policy requires.
  • Is the change recorded? Yes. Audit logs capture all configuration changes.
